ROUND TABLE SESSIONS – A series of events across the year featuring local experts, designed to share knowledge and experience to develop the female tech talent in the Midlands.
This week Midlands Women in Tech Awards organisation held its #IWD23 at BCU’s STEAMHouse campus.
As well as launching the awards for 2023, a panel made up of 4 local award-winning females shared their own stories and experiences with the audience. This year’s theme has been about Embracing Equity, the panel highlighted the
importance of having leadership that reflects your target customer who will no doubt represent the diverse country that we live in.
Not only is this good for morale, but it also makes business sense that ensure your decision-makers understand the wide range of employees and customers that you are looking to work with.
A core theme has been “If you can see it, you can believe you can achieve it” and the panel definitely inspired the audience with their own success stories.

Amandeep Jheeta – Delivery Director NTT Data UK
I have been in the IT industry for just under two decades. As a previous winner of the Shining Star award, ambassador and, champion of Diversity & Inclusion I have a keen investment in empowering and encouraging women to overcome obstacles and maintain their ambitions.
I have worked passionately as a tech leader to challenge the status quo and break the gender bias. It is a personal quest to make the Tech sector a more inclusive workplace at all levels in the hierarchy.
Prof. Nicola Wilkin – Director of Education University of Birmingham
Professor Nicola Wilkin FInstP PFHEA FRSA has an international reputation in entrepreneurship and digital exploitation. The prestigious Women in Tech Project Leader Award and the Institute of Physics Phillips Medal were clear recognition of not only her impact in tech but in driving equality and inclusion in tech in particular.
Nicola has an international track record in the Education Technology sector. Notable successes include a Venture Capital backed, machine-learning student spin out `Graide’, and working in partnership with global company, Maplesoft to diversify the education portfolio within STEM.
Natalie Scarlett – Managing Director Tech Rootz
Natalie is the Managing Director of The Black Heritage Support Service; a social enterprise dedicated to supporting the Black community and Tech Rootz; a ‘no coding’ developmental initiative dedicated to making the transition into the tech industry as easy as possible.
Paula Bedborough – Director Secure Socialising
Paula is the director of Secure Socialising, who have developed innovative technological solutions to improve public safety and security in the night-time economy. Winner of the WIT Tech Entrepreneur Award, and shortlisted for the Innovation Award, has developed new technology to help keep people safe when they are out socialising.
